Jawa was founded in 1929 by František Janeček. The name mixes his initials with the Wanderer motorcycle he started out building.

Its moped, the Babetta, arrived in 1970 as the 206, with a rigid frame. The 207 got full suspension in 1975, and the 210 got a new engine in 1983 with one-speed or two-speed options.

Jawa was one of the first companies to put transistorized, contactless ignition on a moped. That ignition unit is also the part that tends to fail, but rebuilds are cheap.
