Puch AD
Porsche-designed, 1984
// The story
The AD is short for Austro-Daimler, a name with deep Puch roots: the company merged with Austro-Daimler back in 1928. Puch brought the name back in 1984 on a moped designed by Porsche, released alongside the Cobra and the Dart.
It came two ways. The 1-speed ran a modernized E50 with a needle-bearing piston pin and a three-shoe clutch. The 2-speed ran the automatic ZA50. Both used a 12mm Bing carb, and the pedal drive runs through the engine itself, a big break from the Maxi's layout.
Mid-80s ADs are rare finds now, and nothing else Puch built looks like one. The AD Astro designs are for the people who know.
