Kreidler
German 50cc racing royalty

// The story
Kreidler started in 1903 as a metal and wire works in Kornwestheim, Germany, founded by Anton Kreidler. It didn't build motorcycles until 1951, but it caught on fast: by 1959 about a third of the motorcycles sold in Germany were Kreidlers.
The company lived in the 50cc class. The Florett is its classic, and Kreidler won nine world championships in 50cc Grand Prix racing.
Americans got the MP-9 and MP-19, both two-speeds. Owners know them for a vibration people call "the shakes," and parts can take some hunting. The Kreidler name still exists, but today it goes on scooters and bicycles, not mopeds.
