Sachs Eagle

The mystery moped from 1982

The Eagle is one of the stranger mopeds out there. According to moped historians, Bombardier in Canada had the German company Hercules build these bikes without its name on them, for just one year, 1982, and maybe just a single batch.

They ran Sachs engines, like other Hercules mopeds of the era, and came in three versions: Eagle I, II and III. The Hercules origins still peek through if you look closely. The H logo shows up on the gas cap and the headlight brackets, and the ID plates are in both English and French for Canada.

Eagles mostly turned up around the Great Lakes, in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan, and hardly anywhere else. That makes them a fun find and a good conversation starter at any meet.
